Marma Therapy: How to target marma points in body massage?

THE BENEFITS OF MARMA THERAPY

Marma therapy uses ancient Ayurvedic pressure points to relieve pain and tension. Marma point massage is also used to improve joint movements and flexibility, stimulate blood flow, and improve posture.

Marma points are delicate or crucial locations where it is believed that highly concentrated prana, or life force, flows. These points may sometimes get blocked. Marma points, which are a component of the neurological system, may either calm or excite a dosha and have a variety of effects on the body and mind. Indian martial arts schools have utilised marma, or energy points, for healing reasons since ancient times.

From the age of ancient civilizations, practitioners have been mapping the human body and linking various limbs, organs, immune responses and even emotions to specific energy points. Overtime, these practitioners have observed that tapping at certain acupressure points can release an enormous amount of stress, tension and negative energies from our bodies. HOW TO MARMA POINT MASSAGE THE BACK?

This therapy uses organic massage oil - a mixture of Ayurvedic oils - on the back, shoulders, and arms. Different degrees of massaging and stimulating the muscles and marma points in these regions have a therapeutic impact both locally and distantly. In addition to reducing pain and tension, calming the mind and harmonizing energy, marma point massages may also purify, invigorate, or revitalize the body.

  • Apply some warm oil to your hands in a tiny quantity. Rub your hands together with the oil to properly distribute it.
  • To promote relaxation in the recipient of the massage, move your hands slowly.
  • Beginning at the lower back, massage with light to medium pressure. On each side of the spine, raise your hands until they reach your shoulders.
  • Move your hands upward in a circular manner. As you form the circles, press your thumbs a little harder.
  • Cross the shoulders, then begin descending the upper arms. As you descend, apply less pressure.
  • As you massage, check to see whether you're using too much or too little pressure. Inquire about any areas of pain the individual may be experiencing. Massage a place that hurts either not at all or or very softly.
  • As needed, reapply oil  to your hands.
