AYURVEDIC MASSAGE

While traditional massage typically involves a person lying on the bed with another massaging the back or neck, Ayurveda specifically recommends massage focused on stimulating the Marma points in the face. This Ayurvedic massage is believed to provide widely superior benefits than the muscle-focused massage that we are familiar with.

And that’s a good news!

You don’t have to go to an expert all the time. Well, while it’s beneficial to be given a full marma therapy by an Ayurvedic practitioner, giving yourself a Marma facial therapy can be learned and done whenever and anywhere you are.

HOW TO MARMA MASSAGE YOUR FACE?

For an Ayurvedic massage, you may use any essential oil of your choosing. To calm the mind and relax the facial muscles, the majority of ayurveda doctors advise using coconut oil, passionflower oil, or lavender oil based on your dosha for facial massage.

An example of an Ayurvedic massage technique for the face marma points is given below:

  1. With both hands, begin by gently massaging the neck from the collarbone to the chin.
  2. Place your right hand's index finger at the cleft over your chin and slide slowly toward it. Put your middle finger just under the chin. The fingers should now be softly moved from the jawline up towards the right ear.
  3. Use your left hand to do the identical action on the left side.
  4. Use your index fingers to begin massaging the marma points on your cheeks. Apply gentle pressure along the smile lines from the chin to the nose, and then use your hands to massage both cheeks upward from the corners of the mouth to the temples.
  5. With a gentle touch, place the ring finger slightly below the eyebrow on either side where it meets the bridge of the nose. Then, slide it outwards. Return to the beginning place by carefully following the eye socket under and around each eye.
  6. Starting from the side of each nose, begin massaging the third eye with the middle and index fingers. The centre of the forehead should then be massaged up the length of the nose. This location is known as the "third eye" or the sixth chakra.
  7. Put your hands on the summit of your head and quickly yet softly rub your forehead in this manner.
  8. Now, massaging the hairline upward from the bridge of the nose between the brows with the ring and middle fingers of one hand
  9. Sweep your right hand's fingers over your forehead from left to right, and then your left hand's fingers across your forehead from right to left.
  10. Use the middle fingers of both hands to finish by massaging all the marma points.
