PITTA DIET IN SUMMER

PITTA DIET IN SUMMER

Agni (the digestive fire), a source of internal heat, disperses throughout the summer to keep us cool. Our bodies naturally seek light foods and short meals that are easier to digest. Eating mindfully may help reduce the risk of overeating by allowing yourself to completely experience the taste and texture of your food.

If you like dishes that are chilled, liquid and even somewhat greasy in the summertime, you're in luck. Seasonal fruits and salads are best enjoyed now. Dairy desserts like ice cream and fresh handmade yogurt are perfect at this time of year because of the abundance of sweet dairy products.

Honey and molasses are the only two unprocessed sweeteners that aren't warming, so they may be eaten sparingly in the summer.

If you're looking for something to cool you down in the sweltering summer heat, try a refreshing lassi, a cup of mint or lime-infused water with a little raw sugar, or a cup of peppermint, licorice, or rose tea. The digestive heat is disrupted and pollutants are created while consuming iced beverages.

If you're a fan of sour or under-ripe fruits, old cheeses, and spicy foods like mustard seeds and hot veggies, you may want to limit your intake. Spicy meals, such as those containing chilies or cayenne pepper, should be avoided at all costs.

Remember that fresh veggies (such as those found in salads) digest better if consumed during lunch rather than evening.
